Innovative Sewage System Design
Innovative Wastewater Design and Implementation: Chatham, MA
J.M. O’REILLY & ASSOCIATES, INC was engaged by a home owner on Windmill Lane in Chatham, MA to consult on the options available for the upgrade of a failed sewage system for an existing the house they recently purchased. The system failed as a result of a high groundwater table and the lack of separation between the estimated high groundwater and the bottom of the existing leaching bed.
Properties on all three side of the property had been recently upgraded to title 5 systems, which resulted in three mounded systems some of which consisted of raised concrete vaults. The homeowners were very concerned on what a new sewage system would look like and the potential negative impact to the aesthetics of their property.
J.M. O’REILLY & ASSOCIATES, INC. while working within the Local and State sanitary regulations, implemented innovative wastewater technologies to develop a sewage system design plan which maintained the allowable separation from the bottom of the leaching facility to the high groundwater table, when using an approved treatment technology. The plan was presented to the local authorities and approval was granted.
Below are some photos of the final landscaping. Our design eliminated the need for a raised wall. The wall to the rear of our design was installed over 9 years ago. Client was very happy to still have a useable yard for their family and guests. We wonder what the abutters think of their systems now......
